To the musicians and fans who came to Montreal, the venues who hosted inworld, the people who filled those venues, Ed Lowell and the Stream Team for providing a free audio stream, Jamie Otis for letting us play with a quicktime stream for a full month before the event until we had that nailed, and Shana!  our wonderful caterer and her crew!  Matt, the bartender!  nice job!  Rich for manning the sound board and doing that so well!  Ian's sound guys who helped with setup and takedown and a little troubleshooting!  John Abbot College for letting us rent their wonderful facilities! Thank-you everyone!

The Schedule!

All shows will be one hour in length and hosted by the musicians listed. The LM for the venue as well as the stream address are included just in case the sim fills up and you wish to listen on Winamp etc.

The Venues!

Well folks...the final numbers are in!....we will be 55 participants in Montreal for the MMM v2.0....19 of which are musicians!...We'll be audio and video streaming for 20 hours.... spread over 10 venues during the course of the weekend. The schedule will be available from the MMM info kiosk in the following days at the venues that are so generously supporting the Meetup. Please check the blog site as well for the schedule at participating venues.

MMM and Community

MMM is a gathering of Second Life musicians and music supporters held in a Real Life setting and offers an opportunity for everyone to meet and share what we have to offer.. face to face.

The goal is to involve as many people as possible in this event, as we all truly believe that there is a real musical community here, and the mere fact that many people travel and commit to these events is a strong indication of exactly that. We are also hoping that there is a way to integrate both RL and SL in a way that no matter what side of the screen you are on the experience can be meaningful and enjoyable.

To build upon this idea of community the event will be held and sponsored by a number of venues on the grid ...approximatley 10......and we will attempt to be streaming about 20 hours of music and video over the course of the weekend. Each venue will be promoting through their groups and personal contacts... helping to get word out.

One of the amazing aspects of all this new technology is the ability to spread information so easily and at the click of a "copy and paste"....or "forward"....or "Like"....we can involve so many folks so quickly. This is what we are asking you to do. Please take a little time to pass this information along. Publicize this blog, and talk to friends and tell them what's going on. The event will only get better the more energy that people put into it...both in RL and SL.....and its already going to be a great amount of fun!

Registration and Accommodations

You can get the registration forms (one for the event and barbecues, one for accommodations in the residence) from an MMM Subscribe-O-Matic (history button when you click). Find one at Nitida Ridge or at some of the gigs of participating musicians.

We've removed the pdf forms that were linked here; they were problematic for too many people.

Details of accomodations:

Stewart Hall Residence is located on the John Abbott College campus which is a 5-minute walk from the concert hall where the Meetup will take place. There is public transport a stones throw from the front door that will take you to downtown Montreal in less than an hour should you have some time to take in the sights. You can also get door to door from the airport to the residence using public transport.

This is BASIC NO FRILLS dorm style accommodation but the location is fantastic for our event and the price is very reasonable.

• The apartments consist of 2 bedrooms ..each having two single beds.
• There is a small SHARED kitchen and dining area, and a SHARED bathroom.
• There is wireless internet access and a telephone for local calls and long distance calling card use.
• The rooms do not have air conditioning but large windows and a breeze off the lake will probably be all you need.
• Linens and towels are provided but you must bring your own soap and shampoo.
• There is plenty of parking.
• The kitchenettes are bare so I suggest throwing a coffee cup and cutlery into your luggage...we'll dig up some paper plates. (Bree's comment - you won't need to cook on the 2 main event days - the food in the venue is going to be great!)
• There are several very comfortable common rooms that can be used as well...although we have the venue until 3am!!
• CHECKOUT time is 12:00 noon

You may opt to share a bedroom or may choose to go single occupancy for a small increase in the daily price.

Prices are as follows:

• Shared occupancy L$12,500 per day per person
• Single occupancy L$14,000 per day

MMMv2.0 networking and info sources

There are several options for keeping updated with MMMv2.0 happenings before the event. Registration forms will be made available soon, schedules will be planned, etc.

• If you have a group slot and like to chat a bit, search for and join the group called Montreal Bound! within SL. It's open enrolment and free to join.
• TP to Nitida Ridge and touch the Subscribe-O-Matic located there. Some attending musicians may have Subscribe-O-Matics out at their gigs as well.
• There is a Facebook event called MMM v2.0 Montreal Musicians Meetup 2011; you could join the group SL Live Music Jams in FaceBook as well.

MMMv2.0 dates and location

Dates will be July 29, 30, and 31, 2011 - this is a long weekend in parts of Canada.

The location is similar to the last time, in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. Inexpensive accomodations will again be available on the Sir John Abbott College campus, and this time, the venue will be on the college grounds rather than in the church hall.

New Blog dedicated to Montreal Musicians' Meetup

Since we're pretty definite about holding this event for a second time, I felt it deserved its own blog.

To recap, the first large meetup of Second Life musicians and fans was MMM09, which happened in a church hall near the campus of Sir John Abbott College on the West Island of Montreal in 2009. People have often said this event set the bar for others to follow. Whether or not that is true, those who were there know that they had a blast, sharing good music, good food, good times. There was much to learn, but overall the event could easily be called a success.
